Dr. Vikas Divyakirti is not currently an IAS officer, though he did successfully clear the prestigious Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination early in his career.
Instead, he is widely recognized across India as an educator, author, entrepreneur, and the founder and managing director of Drishti IAS, a prominent coaching institute based in New Delhi.
The UPSC Journey and Resignation
In 1996, at the age of 22, Vikas Divyakirti cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination on his very first attempt, securing an All India Rank (AIR) of 384. Following his success, he was allotted to the Central Secretariat Service (CSS) as a civil servant, serving as a Section Officer in the Department of Official Language under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
However, his tenure in the government was short-lived. Driven by a deep passion for teaching and academia, he chose to resign from his bureaucratic position shortly after joining to pursue education full-time.
Transition to Education
After stepping away from government service, Dr. Divyakirti taught briefly at Delhi University and pursued extensive higher education, eventually earning multiple degrees, including an MPhil and a Ph.D. in Hindi Literature, alongside degrees in law, sociology, and history.
In 1999, he laid the foundation for Drishti IAS in Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi, with the core mission of making quality civil services preparation accessible—particularly to aspirants from Hindi-medium backgrounds. Over the decades, he has grown into one of India’s most iconic and influential mentors for UPSC candidates, known for his analytical teaching style, public discourse on socio-political issues, and digital presence through educational content and lectures.
